For Farmers

If you are interested in connecting with Glean Milwaukee, please contact us!  There are a few ways to collaborate:

1. On the farm

Why: If you have produce you will have to leave in the field for one reason or another, contact us.

How: We will round up as many volunteers as we can within a couple days, and then we will pick as much as we can from your field.  We make convenience for growers our priority – your land and property will be treated with respect during the 2-3 hour event.

What: All the food will be donated to local food pantries and other organizations that help feed families in the Milwaukee area.  If the equipment is available, the produce will be weighed before leaving the farm, and the farmer immediately given a receipt documenting the transaction.

2. At the Farmers’ Market

If you regularly vend at a farmers’ market in the Milwaukee area and are interested in donating produce remaining after-market, contact us or encourage your farm manager to contact us!  We can work with you to develop a system to get the food to where it is needed.

It’s OK to Donate Produce!

All potential donors (whether they are gardeners, farmers market managers, restaurant owners, etc.) please note the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act (1996) removes all liability in regard to food donation if necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the food is taken.  If, for whatever reason, a donation was given by someone who understood it to be in good condition, but that food later posed a health hazard, the donor would not be held responsible.

Tax Deduction Links

Internal Revenue Code 170(e)(3) provides enhanced tax deductions to businesses to encourage donations of fit and wholesome food to qualified nonprofit organizations serving the poor and needy.  Qualified business taxpayers can deduct the cost to produce the food and half the difference between the cost and full fair market value of the donated food.” – USDA.gov
